GLFF WAYNE IS ALIVE

The news from Wayne State University this week: The Gay/Lesbian Liberation Organization is alive and well, despite several serious setbacks.

Failure by last year's leaders to submit forms to the University on time has led to the loss of recognition as a student organization. With this loss (temporary, we are assured) comes the loss of our office in the Student Center Building, and even more importantly, the loss of the Gay Switchboard, which operated from it. Gay Switchboard, Metro Detroit's only Gay crisis assistance service, has been in operation for more than ten years, providing invaluable services to our community.

Not all of our news is bad, however. Steps have already been taken to prevent reoccurrence of these problems. A written constitution (the group's first) was adopted at the Sept. 24th meeting. Election of officers and adoption of written by-laws is underway. An appeal has been filed with the University for the Switchboard, and an active search begun for a new location in the event this is not successful.

Weekly "Rap" Sessions are not affected by the loss of the office, and continue to be held each Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. in room 289, Student Center Building, Wayne. A series of interesting topics has been prepared, and plans for guest speakers are being made. All members of the Gay/Lesbian community are encouraged to attend; you do not have to be a student at Wayne.

Plans are also being made for our annual Halloween Party, to be held Thursday, October 29 at the close of the "Rap" session. The party will be pot luck, each person to bring a party "snack" to be shared, and his/her favorite (non-alcholic) beverage. Music for dancing will be provided.

If you are willing to be of assistance in our effort to re-activate the Gay

Switchboard, or in any other way, please contact GLLF during the regular Thursday "Rap" sessions. Your participation and help are needed.

See you at GLLF/Wayne, Soon! prepared by: Tom McClain
